DREAMING ARCHITECTURES
Transformation, stratification and rebirth of the architectures of the past

On the occasion of World Collage Day, FaiV Officina di Collage proudly presented the international exhibition “Dreaming Architectures. Transformation, Stratification, and Rebirth of the Architectures of the Past.”
Held in May 2024 in a historic museum in Turin, Italy, the event brought together artists from around the world to reimagine and reshape architectural heritage through the lens of collage. Each participating artist chose a historical structure from their own country and envisioned its transformation—expressing dreams of renewal, adaptation, and reinterpretation through a single, powerful collage work. The result: a global mosaic of layered visions, honoring memory while daring to dream forward.
A digital catalogue was also created and shared with all contributors, and selected works were featured across their digital platforms. Below you can find my humble contribution.
In this analogue collage, we can contemplate a composition that unites reality and imagination in an interconnected visual proposal. An innocent child tenderly embraces the Sanctuary of Fátima, in Portugal, while an important religious event takes place. The unifying encounter emanates a growing emotional intensification. It can be felt in the air. The latent catharsis prepares for its release. Although large, the harmless child conveys the deep and eternal connection between humanity and divine architecture. The ever-so-peculiar architectural configurations erected around our presence provide a metaphorical shelter, injecting courage and determination in the face of the uncertainties that define our everyday lives. The visual configuration of the contrasts presented above all emphasizes a subtle message of hope and resistance. As if fusing the peaceful embrace with the emotional energy of the pilgrimage, two unassuming girls recline in observation at the bottom of the collage. Their unemotional presence, in contrast to everything else, invites contemplation, challenging viewers to reflect on the significance of architectural wonders and their importance in shaping the legacy of faith. Through this arrangement, the collage not only honors reverence for architecture, but also for the timeless rituals that it serves and helps to link to the intangible of our ambition, serving as a humble reminder of our faith.
