The work.

Simão Matos is a Portuguese collage artist currently based in Spain. He uses analogue collage as a tool to stimulate storytelling and reflection. By combining fragments—never randomly—he constructs layered compositions that invite viewers to dive into a rich and introspective experience.

His process is driven not only by artistic expression but also by a need for emotional release. Sometimes, his collages become a personal vehicle to materialize an inner revolt against what he feels he cannot control while encouraging others to reflect on their place in the world. Through this therapeutic journey, his work mirror’s identity, memory, and meaning.

Each analogue collage offers a unique dynamic: its tactile layers and textures invite deep engagement, allowing viewers to decide when and how their emotional and visual dialogue with the piece concludes. In this way, collage becomes more than an art form—it becomes a shared space for reflection, interpretation, and human connection.

Collage is far more intricate and meaningful than it might first appear.
