“COLORAMA”

International collective at “Pequeña Galeria”, by Laboratorio de Collage de Madrid, Spain

Commissioned by Ariane Cristiel, and Invited curators Laurie Kanyer (USA) and Niko Vartiainen (Finland)

In celebration of International Collage Day 2024, I was honored to have my work selected for COLORAMA, a vibrant exhibition hosted by The Collage Lab in Madrid.

The concept behind COLORAMA was as bold as it was liberating: color was the only creative parameter. No fixed theme—just space to experiment and express through pure, analogue collage. All works submitted had to follow a strict format (vertical A3 or A4) and be previously unpublished. The result was a highly curated, deeply expressive show featuring diverse voices from across the globe.

It was especially meaningful to be part of a project judged and supported by two inspiring figures in the contemporary collage world:

🟡 Niko Vartiainen (@_nikovartiainen) – a pioneering Finnish collagist, editor, art director, and the creative force behind Suttapress and Toombes. Known for innovative print works like Cults of Life, Hungry of Love, and The Cutting Chaos, Niko has played a crucial role in elevating collage on an international level. His editorial vision and passion for contemporary collage made his presence as a juror a true privilege.

🔵 Laurie Kanyer – an internationally respected collagist, author, and collector from the United States, whose commitment to the arts spans both creative and therapeutic realms. Since 1986, Laurie has used collage to foster dialogue in family therapy and visual storytelling. Her work as a writer and her renowned collection of contemporary collage, along with her sponsorship of institutions like Kolaj Fest, have made her a key figure in the field. Her support of COLORAMA added exceptional depth and validation to the event.

This exhibition was more than a showcase—it was a celebration of analog creativity, community, and the power of color to unify artists across borders. I’m grateful to be part of this evolving international conversation around collage.
